NCATE (National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education) is the largest accrediting body in the U.S. It evaluates education programs of universities, colleges and departments of education. Through its accreditation process, the organization determines whether programs meet six rigorous national standards for preparing educators for today’s classrooms.
Benefits of an NCATE-Accredited Degree
An online teaching degree from a school with NCATE accreditation makes it easier for graduates to find teaching jobs and to pass more demanding initial licensing expectations in many states. Graduates should also find it easier to earn board certification through the new National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
Additionally, many states make it easier for graduates from NCATE-accredited schools to earn licensure in different states through reciprocity agreements.
NCATE-Accredited Schools
Currently 623 schools have been accredited by NCATE. Nearly 100 more are seeking NCATE accreditation.
